The water level in Çınarlı Pond, which is used for agricultural irrigation especially in Çınarlı, Mirzaoba, Kaymakoba and Orhaniye neighborhoods, has dropped by several meters.

Unconscious Water Use and Climate Change Impact

Experts say climate change, extreme temperatures, and reckless water extraction are disrupting the pond's water balance. They point out that the dropping water level is also endangering the pond's ecosystem. The risk of the water turning into a swamp is causing fish kills and the extinction of other aquatic species.

Experts stated that the Marmara Region has received less rainfall in the last decade and that winters have been snowless, and that this situation has significantly reduced the amount of water in the ponds.

Ecosystem in Danger: "Lifeline" Awaited

It was reported that Çınarlı Reservoir currently holds so little water that it's close to turning into a swamp, and that fish kills are seriously threatening the ecosystem. It was emphasized that significant rainfall is not expected in the coming months, and winter snowfall, in particular, will determine the course of this situation.

Experts warned that illegal water withdrawals must be halted when water levels drop to a critical level, threatening the pond's natural habitat. They also emphasized the need for farmers to act responsibly.
